The authors have studied the composition of 41 glass samples of core-formed vessels and beads dating from the 6th\u20131st centuries BC originating from the Volna 1 burial site on the Taman Peninsula. Most of the vessels and all of the beads were made of material presumably of Levantine origin; the origin of the glass from one vessel, dating to the first half of the 5th century BC, remains unknown (it can be pre\u00adsumed to originate from Italy or Egypt). Minor changes in the composition in the 5th century BC suggest either a shift of glassmaking centres within the Syro-Palestinian region or technological modifications in glassmaking or \u2013 working practices. For the early period (late 6th \u2013 5th century BC), it is also possible that glassmaking centres specialized in producing glass of certain colours \u2013 primarily blue coloured with cobalt, which was not widely available.<\/p>\n
