Key words: Novgorod Velikiy of the 12th–13th cc., sarcophagi from a plinthiform brick, brick’s formats, burials in temples.

The article is devoted to the sarcophagus which was found during the excavation works of the St. Panteleimon Monastery in Novgorod Velikiy. The sarcophagus is made of a Byzantine brick (a plinthiform brick) which, probably, had been built in 1220-s for the ktitor of the Monastery church boyar Fyodor Pineshchinich. Such sarcophagi came to Novgorod from the South Rus and according to the author are very rare in Novgorod. They have a Byzantine origin.
