The article considers disputable issues of the Scythian archaeology related to the reconstruction of the chronology of the Scythian kings’ regency known from the Herodotus’ “History”. A special attention is paid to the methodology of comparison of the information from the written sources concerning the Scythian kings with the archaeological data. It is shown that non-compliance with the methodology discussed can lead to distortion of the result searched; it is also emphasized that in such comparisons the date of the barrow based on the complex chronology should stay in priority, because only the date allows connecting archaeology and the history of Scythia.
