Yamgort I (the Eneolithic, Late Bronze Age, and Early Middle Ages) on the river Synya in the south of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The paper discusses the results of studies in particle size distribution, acidity, the content of humus, iron oxides and phosphates, as well as magnetic susceptibility of soils and subsoils in the settlement. More than 100 soil samples were taken from the filling of the dwelling pit and stratigraphic sections. It was found that the berming material had been obtained from the same location, from a depth of about one meter; the cultural layer is rich in phosphates. The phosphate method was applied for the reconstruction of the composition of food revealed under a collapsed large vessel. Based on the palaeosoil properties, three stages of territory exploitation were identified (by granulometry, humus, iron and phosphates), moreover, in a cross-section of the interdwelling space at the settlement, one buried soil and a cultural layer are clearly distinguished morphologically, however, soil chemical properties show two more peaks of increase in the humus, iron and phosphate content. The authors discuss some of the design features of identified structures. It was found that the Late Bronze Age dwelling was constructed in the place of the preceding Eneolithic one. In addition, the paper presents a brief description of the pottery complex and lithic tools.
