The author assumes that the composition of pottery from the settlement of Bolshevo 3 in the Upper Klyazma (Moscow Region) of the second half of the 11th century dates back to the pottery tradition of the Novgorod-Smolensk borderlands of 1025–1050 and the Upper Volga. During this period, the skills of making handcoiled pottery of the jar type were still preserved, early wheel-made S-shaped vessels with cut rims were already in use, and the West Slavic types of early wheel-thrown pottery had fallen into disuse. Closed pottery complexes of the 11th century, including handmade and early wheel-made ware, are considered as a source for establishing the date of the settlement. The author believes that the asynchrony of complexes close in typological composition makes it possible to obtain additional historical information about migration directions.
